4 min read · Last updated: 2026-05-08

UTC and KST relationship

UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) = base time

KST (Korea Standard Time) = UTC + 9 hours

Example: UTC 12:00 PM = KST 9:00 PM

What is a Unix timestamp?

Number of seconds elapsed since January 1, 1970, 00:00:00 UTC. It's the standard way all computers represent time uniformly worldwide.

Example: 1,704,067,200 = January 1, 2024, 00:00:00 UTC

Reading server logs

To convert a UTC timestamp from a server log to your local time:

Local time = UTC time + timezone offset

For Korea: add 9 hours to UTC time to get KST.
